履修生のGAO Jieが平成30年度の京都大学総長賞を受賞しました

京都大学では、学業・課外活動・社会貢献活動等において顕著な活躍をし大学の名誉を高めた学生および学生団体を対象とした学生表彰制度「京都大学総長賞」を設けています。平成30年度の京都大学総長賞を、当プログラム履修生のGAO Jieが受賞しました。

受賞理由:
チンパンジーがじゃんけんのような循環的な関係を理解できるかについて、ヒト幼児と比較しながら研究を行い、ヒトとチンパジーにおける「身体」の知覚認識に何か差異があるのではないかという着想を得て、「上下さかさま」の身体の知覚というユニークな研究を現在進めている。国内外で高い評価を得ており、Primates誌の2018 Social Impact Awardの受賞を含む計9つの賞を受賞している。

Kyoto University President's Award is given annually to students who contributed to redounding the University's prestige through their achievements in academic, extracurricular, and public-service activities. Jie Gao, the PWS student, won the 2018 Kyoto University President's Award for her academic achievements as stated below.

Ms. Jie Gao studied whether chimpanzee can understand the circular relationship like Rock-Paper-Scissors Game, compared with human children, and got the idea that there might be some differences in the perception of "body" between humans and chimpanzees. She is currently going on unique studies of "perception of the upside-down body". These studies were highly evaluated in Japan as well as internationally, and she has won a total of nine awards, including the award of Journal Primates 2018 Social Impact Award.
